Jeera Matar Pulao

11/2 cup Basmati Rice

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1/2 cup boiled peas

2 medium onions chopped fine

2 green chilies slit lengthwise

1 pinch asafoetida powder

1 tsp garam masala

2-3 cloves

2-3 bay leaves

1 small cinnamon stick

4-5 black peppercorns

2 tbsp ghee

salt to taste

1 tsp lime juice

few cashews

1 tbsp chopped coriander (cilantro) leaves

 

 

Wash and soak rice in water for 30 minutes.

 

Heat ghee and fry cashews till light brown, drain, then fry onions till  golden brown.

 

Add asafoetida powder, cumin seeds, bay leaf, cloves ,cinnamon, peppercorns in ghee. Fry them for 1 minute.

 

Add peas and fry for 2 minutes.

Add rice, salt, cashew nuts and garam masala and stir gently. Put 4 cups of water. After its boiling put lime juice in it.

 

Cook covered on medium low heat.

After its done garnish with  coriander leaves.

 

Serve hot with your favorite curries or Raitas.
